Furukawa Matsuri: one of the most exhilating festivals
Furukawa Matsuri, designated as Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property by the government, is an exhilarating festival held on April 19th and 20th annually. The festival consists of two parts: "Okoshi Daiko" or Rousing Drum parade and the gorgeous "Yatai" or festival floats parade. The Okoshi Daiko parade has hundreds of men carrying the big drum which are played occasionally by two men on the top. Yatai parade has nine beautifully decorated festival floats moving through Furukawa Town. Do not miss this if you are in Furukawa during this time of the year.
If visitors come to Hida Furukawa during other times of the year, they can always stop by Hida Furukawa Matsuri Kaikan. It has 3D movie of Furukawa Matsuri and diplays three real Yatai floats where visitors can experience a small glimpse of the festive atmosphere of the Furukawa Matsuri.

Santera Mairi: See the town lit up by hundreds of snow candles
"Santera Mairi" or "Three Temple Visit" is held annually on January 15th. Traditionally, it was used as an event for young men and women to meet. Currently, the event has become as a temple visit to wish for a good relationship.
Many snow candles and lanterns are lit in the town, creating a dreamy and romantic atomosphere. Many visitors during this time rent a kimono and walk the town for a memorable evening.
Kitsune-bi Matsuri(Sunshower Festival)
This unique event Kitsune-bi Matsuri is the revival of fairy-tale “Sunshower”,which is held on the 4th Saturday of September annually.
The prosession by foxes(people wearing fox’s make-up) walk through in the darkness town solemnly ,and heading to the wedding venue after an encounter between fox’s bride and groom at Matsuri Plaza.
It is said that seeing the prossesion giving divine blessing for “rich harvest” ”safety of own family” and “prosperity in business”.
